Amex Platinum Oura Ring credit at a glance

This is a statement credit after an eligible charge, rather than an automatic $200 reduction at checkout. You need enough unused credit on the account to receive the full amount.

What qualifies for the Amex Platinum Oura Ring credit?

The benefit applies to eligible ring purchases on an enrolled U.S. Consumer Platinum Card Account. Amex’s terms do not restrict it to a specific ring generation. That means Oura Ring 5 and Oura Ring 4 can qualify when the purchase meets the merchant, payment, enrollment and shipping requirements.

• Eligible: Oura Ring purchases made online at Oura’s U.S. website, charged to a Card on the enrolled account.
• Excluded: Oura Membership, other hardware such as chargers and add-ons, extended warranties, Oura gift cards, and purchases through third-party retailers, delivery services or intermediaries.
• Shipping: Purchases shipped to U.S. territories or outside the U.S. are not eligible.
• Shared limit: The Basic Card Member and Additional Card Members share up to $200 per Card Account per calendar year.

Only the Basic Card Member or an Authorized Account Manager can enroll the eligible account. Check your specific Card’s Benefits dashboard; these terms describe the U.S. consumer benefit and should not be assumed to apply to a Business Platinum or a card issued in another country.

How to use the Amex Platinum Oura Ring credit

1. Enroll before ordering. Log in to your American Express account, open the eligible Platinum Card’s Benefits section and enroll in the Oura Ring credit. You can also call the number on the back of your Card.
2. Choose your model and size. Compare Oura Ring 5 with Oura Ring 4. Use the sizing guidance for the model you select; don’t assume sizes transfer between generations.
3. Check out directly with Oura. Confirm you are on Oura’s U.S. website and pay directly with a Card on the enrolled account. An affiliate link alone does not activate the Amex benefit.
4. Keep the receipt and check your statement. Allow up to eight weeks after the eligible charge for the credit. Contact Amex if it has not posted by then.

December purchases need extra care: Amex uses the merchant’s transaction processing date. An order placed on December 31 but processed as January 1 may use the next calendar year’s credit. Leave time for sizing, order confirmation and processing.

Returns, refunds, cancellations or modifications can cause Amex to withhold or reverse the credit. Your account must also meet the benefit’s account-status requirements.

Oura Ring 5 vs. Oura Ring 4: which should you buy?

Compare the price difference after the credit. When both purchases qualify for the same unused $200 benefit, the credit reduces each cost equally. A $50 price gap remains a $50 gap after the statement credit.

How much does an Oura Ring cost after the $200 Amex credit?

At the prices checked, an Oura Ring 5 starts at $199 after the full $200 Amex Platinum credit; a Silver Oura Ring 4 is $149 after the credit. These ring-only examples exclude taxes, shipping, membership, optional extras and the Platinum Card’s annual fee.

Examples assume enrollment, an eligible purchase and the full benefit still available. Check current Ring 5 prices and Ring 4 prices before buying. A sale changes the calculation; a more expensive finish increases your remaining cost.

Budget separately for Oura Membership

In the U.S., Oura Membership costs $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year before applicable tax. New members receive one included month; buying another ring for an existing account does not provide another complimentary month. The membership renews automatically until cancelled and is excluded from the Amex Oura credit.

For a new member paying monthly, 11 paid months cost $65.89. A $399 Ring 5, less a $200 statement credit, plus those 11 membership payments totals $264.89 for the first 12 months, before taxes, shipping, optional extras and the Card’s annual fee. Twelve paid monthly payments cost $71.88 in a later full year at the same rate.

Can you combine the Oura credit with HSA or FSA funds?

Oura says eligible ring and membership purchases can be paid for with HSA or FSA funds, subject to your plan’s rules. Its two-year and three-year Extend Protection Plans are excluded. 

Paying directly with an HSA or FSA card does not satisfy Amex’s requirement to charge the eligible ring purchase to a Card on the enrolled Platinum account. If you pay with Platinum and want to seek reimbursement afterward, ask your plan administrator what qualifies and how to account for the Amex statement credit. Don’t assume the same expense can be reimbursed twice.

HSA/FSA eligibility and the Amex credit have different rules. Membership may qualify under your health spending plan while remaining excluded from the Amex Oura Ring benefit.

Is the Amex Platinum Oura Ring credit worth using?

Our take: this credit is most useful if you already planned to buy an Oura Ring and will wear it consistently. It lowers the entry cost, but you still pay the remainder of the ring price and any ongoing membership costs.

For travelers, following sleep and recovery trends across trips can be useful. For someone who dislikes wearing a ring or paying for another subscription, a smaller checkout bill may still lead to an unused purchase.

Value the benefit at the amount you would otherwise have spent on an eligible ring. Once you own a ring you like, the next calendar year’s credit does not pay for keeping your membership active. Avoid counting $200 as automatic recurring savings every year.
